Collapsible/retractable shoulders are fitted during production of a form on request, at an extra cost. They are used to reduce the effective shoulder girth and bust girth to allow garments for fit over the shoulders without putting stress on the garment or seams. They are particularly helpful with knitted fabrics and bridal/evening wear that often have quite tight waists and bodice areas.
When the form is used for quality control or passing garments, the use of collapsible shoulders will save time and effort.
As they have the effect of reducing the shoulder and bust girth, they aid the fitting of skirts onto a standard Torso dummy and to some degree, remove the need for a specific skirt stand.
